The large rocks that were used to build the stone pyramid were originally part of the nearby Long Branch & Sea Shore Railroad which traversed the coast along a route that is now Ocean Boulevard. Once covered in vines, the rocks are now an attractive place for kids to climb.
Recently, the rocks have been painted in bright colors, and more "art on the rocks" is planned.

The Rock Pyramid was recently painted in bright colors to cover some offensive graffiti messages. Longer term there are plans to have students decorate the rocks. A graffiti-resistant sealer will be applied for protection.
